Erectile Dysfunction: Stem Cell treament

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is defined as the persistent inability to achieve or maintain penile erection sufficient for satisfactory sexual performance. The preferred term is impotence. An erection is always important to the male and his sense of maleness. The inability to function sexually can impact the role a man plays in the world, thus taking away his identity. The impact of ED is directly related to status of his marital life. Therefore, the loss of erectile capability can have a profound effect on a man and his behavior because it can lead to feelings of dissatisfaction with life and add to his stress. Seeking professional health care for ED is a big step for many men. Generally, either the man or his partner has noticed an issue with his physical or mental well-being. Most men, however, do not seek help for a wide variety of reasons: (a) lack of support, (b) social embarrassment (c) barriers that they put in front of themselves. ED affects not only the relationship with his partner but may also affect how the man interacts with friends and co-workers. A man may lose his confidence, his enjoyment in life, and morale. Outwardly productivity at work can also decrease because of lack of self-esteem and confidence. Today, ED is considered a disorder with multiple causes. The current evidence suggests that about 80 percent of ED cases are of organic origin. Organic causes of ED may be vascular (e.g. cardiovascular disease, hypertension, lipid disorders), neurological (e.g. spinal cord injury, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis), iatrogenic (e.g. pelvic surgery, prostatectomy, anti-psychotic agents, antidepressants, beta-blockers, diuretics etc), penile injury/anatomic abnormalities (e.g. Peyronie’s disease, priapism), tumors  and other conditions like smoking, alcoholism.

Occurrence and Prevalence

It was estimated that, in 1995, over 152 million men worldwide experienced ED. For 2025, the prevalence of ED is predicted to be approximately 322 million worldwide. Most men experience this at some point in their lives, usually by the age of 40, and are not psychologically affected by it. Medical and sexual history helps to define the degree and nature of ED and the problem may be associated with sexual desire, erection, ejaculation, or orgasm. Prevalence increases with age, but the prevalence and risk factors of erectile dysfunction among younger men have been scantly analyzed.

Impotence may be of different types

  1. Arteriogenic : Where the arteries supplying blood to the penis do not bring in enough blood to cause an erection.
  2. Venogenic : Where the veins of the penis leak blood and prevent the development of a rigid erection.
  3. Neurogenic : The nerve supply to the penis is very complex. Many things can go wrong with the nerve supply to the penis..
  4. Hormonal : This occurs when there is an imbalance or insufficiency of sex hormones in the blood stream.

Test and Technologies

Several laboratory tests can help diagnose ED. Tests for systemic diseases include blood count, urinalysis, lipid profile, and measurements of creatinine and liver enzymes. Measuring the amount of free testosterone in the blood can yield information about problems with the endocrine system and is indicated especially in patients with decreased sexual desire. Monitoring the erections that occur during sleep (nocturnal penile tumescence) can help rule out certain psychological causes of ED. Healthy men have involuntary erections during sleep. If nocturnal erections do not occur, then ED is likely to have a physical rather than psychological cause. Tests of nocturnal erections are not completely reliable, however scientists have not standardized such tests and have not determined when they should be applied for best results.

Erectile dysfunction Treatment & Care

Erectile dysfunction can be treated at any age. Treatment depends on your overall health and the underlying cause of the problem. A better lifestyle may be all you need for stronger erections. Healthy diet, no smoking, no alcohol intakes, stress free life can serve the purpose.

The following are the traditional treatment measures for ED

Disadvantages of traditional therapies

The most common side effects are aching in the penis, testicles, and area between the penis and rectum; warmth or burning sensation in the urethra; redness from increased blood flow to the penis; and minor urethral bleeding or spotting, according to the National Kidney and Urological Diseases Information Clearinghouse. The body shapes of some men can make it difficult to apply these devices.

Experts Opinion: Stem Cells Therapy for Erectile Dysfunction

At StemRx, under the able guidance of Dr. P.V. Mahajan, there have been some new cellular therapies researched and commercialized successfully. Progress in understanding the underlying disease mechanisms for ED has given a hope to use stem cells in its cure. Stem cells are found in various sources in the body including bone marrow, peripheral blood, adipose tissue  as well as umbilical cord, cord blood and amniotic fluid. Their proliferative and self-renewal capacity along, combined with their ability differentiate and become specialized, makes stem cells unique.

StemRx Bioscience Solutions, founded by stem cells transplant expert Dr. Mahajan is one of the leader in stem cells therapeutic applications.  Most scientists agree that stem cell research has great life-saving potential and will revolutionize the study and treatment of ED. After prolonged research and clinical trials StemRx initiated providing alternative treatment of stem cells for the patients with ED. At StemRx Bioscience Solutions, we take some fat out of you, we separate the stem cells and activate them to put them back in the body. The adipose (fat) derived stem cells migrate near small blood vessels. Releasing growth factors that stimulate increased vascular regeneration, thereby increasing blood flow and penile pressure to improve erection. Results may vary from person to person as the therapy does not affect everybody the same way but stem cell definitely act as a wonder drug providing the  best  Stem Cell Treatment in India for Erectile dysfunction says  Dr. P.V. Mahajan.
